Electronic Scattergories

August 28th, 2008

You can tell how popular a game is, generally, by how many editions its been made into. But if a game is truly, truly successful, then it will invariably feature one penultimate version - the electronic one.

Such is the case with Scattergories and its digitized cousin, Electronic Scattergories. The gameplay is a bit different, too. Instead of operating solo players work in a team to come up with answers. And the answers aren’t written down but merely spoken aloud.

Why? Because the game works differently. The game keeps track of how long each team takes. So the first team goes, takes a minute or two, finishes their card, and then the game moves onto team two for the second round.

Unfortunately this results in a severe imbalance, as each team only gets as long as they had left to go through their next card. So the first team will probably not be able to complete their card - and then the second team wins automatically.

In other words, it’s not that great an item. Sorry, Electronic Scattergories, but you’re just not as good as your paper and die brethren.
